'Explain yourself', demanded a deep, low voice from the top of the stand.
'Well, it all started quite a long ago, when Julie first appeared in my life. I was working as the accountant of Mr White's, as I've always had. And there she came, on the morning of that warm, sunny, cloudless Friday, shining her way into my life just like the sun itself. I fell immediately, completely and helplessly in love with her, Your Honor, and that's why my love had to be sacred, so I kept it safe and secret and buried it six feet under my heart. But that woman, Your Honor, she's tricky, oh sure she is! Luke told me so.
'And who's this Luke', the deep voice inquired.
'Luke is the one who's done it', was the blunt reply. 'He advised me a long time ago against this woman. But I couldn't help it. I fell in love anyway, and Luke went mad. Furious. From then on, he stopped obeying me. He wanted to have things done on his own way.'
'For how long have you known this man?'
'Oh, for ages! He's been always there. People even tend to take us for the same person, so much time we spend together, but we're certainly not, I can assure you that.'
'And what happened to this lady?'
'Who? Julie, you mean? Well... you see: I told him not to be so jealous, not to be so wary of her, Your Honor, I certainly did, but he wouldn't listen to a word I said. He's so stubborn sometimes... his mind was set on the idea that Julie was a bad person whose only purpose was to hurt me. He went mad every time I defended her. What is even worse, he treated her as a prostitute and insulted her every time he saw us together, having a nice chat. He would also whisper nasty things about her in my ear, he was driving me crazy! I told him to stop once, and we had this very ugly argument, you may call it. He went absolutely mad, bersek with jealousy. He locked me in the car and drove all the way to Julie's house, then made me go out and follow him. The worst part was when he found the axe. His eyes were shining red, and he was trembling with excitement. As for me, I was scared to death. We went inside, where Julie was peacefully watching TV, but soon became terrified when she saw us. I freaked out too, and all I could say was 'Forgive us!' but Luke was laughing in this cold, sick voice of his and I doubt she could hear me. When he raised the axe above his head, I screamed at him to stop it, but he did it all the same. I was so damn nervous I almost had a breakdown, and all of a sudden it was me holding the axe with my own hands, my clothes all stained with blood. Poor Julie was lying dead as a door nail in front of me, and I couldn't find Luke anywhere, so I came here, still trembling I guess. But you see, Your Honor, I didn' do it. Luke did, Luke was the one who killed her. And now, well, he must be scared, that's why I can't find him. He's more like a child sometimes. But he's a very nice fellow man in the inside, Your Honor, I can guarantee you that.'
